The LCIA has appointed New African Users’ Council Officers to serve for a term of three years. The volunteer leaders will work in tandem with the LCIA Board, Court and staff to promote the LCIA globally and to ensure that the LCIA provides relevant services for African users and members. They will also help establish and maintain links between the LCIA and its users in the Africa region through a blend of events, thought leadership and business development activities. Nania Owusu-Ankomah Sackey is a litigation and arbitration practitioner and a Partner at Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah, a leading law firm in Ghana, where she advises and represents clients in high value cross-border litigation and arbitration disputes, sits as an arbitrator and is listed on CPR’s Panels of Distinguished Neutrals and the Ghana ADR Hub List of Arbitrators. She is board member of LACIAC, Co-Chair of the Africa Arbitration Group of the IBA Arbitration Committee, recognized as one of Africa’s 50 Most Promising Young Arbitration Practitioners (2020) by the Association of Young Arbitrators and was named a Rising Star by Africa Arbitration (July 2019). She has also been featured as a ‘Woman to Watch’ by the African Institute of Women in Law and was a member of the Task Force for the Commonwealth International Arbitration Study commissioned by the Commonwealth Secretariat. She is a lecturer in Alternative Dispute Resolution at the Ghana School of Law and is called to the bar in England and Wales and in Ghana.
Professor Hon. Githu Muigai SC is the 6th Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya, a Founding and Senior Partner of Mohammed Muigai LLP, a top 10 law firm in Kenya, a Chartered Arbitrator of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and one of Kenya’s most respected dispute resolution lawyers, an esteemed litigator and highly regarded arbitrator with over 35 years’ experience in handling arbitral proceedings domestically, regionally and internationally pursuant to PCA Rules, ICSID Rules, ICC Rules, UNCITRAL Rules, LCIA Rules, the CIArb Rules and the NCIA Rules among others. Prof. Muigai is also a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), a redesignate to the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) panel of Arbitrators and of Conciliators, a member of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Africa Arbitration Association (AAA), Kigali International Arbitration Centre (KIAC) and the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration (NCIA) amongst several other institutions around the globe.
Nathan Searle, previously a Councillor in the LCIA African Users Council, is a partner in the international arbitration group of Hogan Lovells International LLP where he acts for large multinationals in complex and high-value international arbitrations and cross-border disputes and coordinates the firm’s disputes practice in the Africa region. He has extensive experience acting for state-owned entities and advising clients on African related disputes and risk management including in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Cameroon, Angola, DRC and South Africa. He is also a member of the Advisory Board for the Association of Young Arbitrators in Africa (AYA).
Aisha Abdallah is a Partner at ALN Kenya | Anjarwalla & Khanna where she heads the regional Dispute Resolution department based at the Nairobi Head Office. She is dual qualified as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and Solicitor of England and Wales and has substantial experience in complex, high value cross border disputes. She is a Board Member of the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration since 2021, Head of the Governing Council of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre since December 2022 and member of its Proceeding Committee. She is also on the AFSA panel of arbitrators and member of the Africa Users Group for the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, the African Arbitration Association and the Delos board of advisors, amongst other bodies. Aisha is listed in the THE LAWYER AFRICA Top 100 Litigation Lawyers in Kenya in 2023.
Jide Adesokan is a Partner at Stephenson Harwood, boasts significant experience in disputes and transactions across Africa and has acted as counsel in arbitral proceedings under various institutional rules as well as in ad hoc proceedings. Jide is dual qualified as a solicitor and barrister in England and in Nigeria, where he worked for a leading arbitration practice. Jide also worked for two years at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague and is ranked as a ‘Next Generation’ partner in the Legal 500 2023 UK directories for international arbitration which describes him as having ‘ excellent international experience, particularly in African disputes.’
Noella Lubano is a Partner at Oraro & Company Advocates and a highly regarded dispute resolution and arbitration expert specializing in the tracing and recovery of assets, commercial litigation, employment and labour disputes, shareholder disputes, insolvency and restructuring and international arbitration. Noalla is a sought after keynote speaker on International Arbitration has spoken at International Arbitration Conferences held in Kigali, Rwanda, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Nairobi, Kenya as well as in London, United Kingdom and Vienna, Austria. She holds a Master’s degree (LLM) from the University of Cape Town, a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Nairobi, Kenya and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
